About

Emily

I've lived in Madison Heights for nearly 20 years. My husband Dr. Dale Rohrbach and I purchased our first home here in 2004 and have grown our family to include three beautiful children, Sadie, Eric & Evan.

Over the years, I have been lucky to pursue a career that has coupled my passion for helping others and my skills for managing people, training, events fundraising, budgeting and much more.

Currently, I work as the Director of Events & Training for a nonprofit organization that serves the Oakland County small business community

I was elected to serve the Madison Heights community in 2019 and I ask for your vote to continue to serve another term.

2019-2023

Accomplishments

01

02

When I ran for city council in 2019, I told you I wanted to work on three things:

  1. Planting more trees
  2. Improving our parks & city services
  3. Building a more connected and inclusive community

4 years later, I’m excited to tell you about the progress we have made!

03

A more inclusive community

Plant More Trees

Since 2019, Madison Heights has made a concerted effort to plant more trees! Nearly 1,000 new trees are now in the ground and the city has secured nearly $50,000 in grant funding to plant more trees than we’ve ever been able to do before! We’ve planted trees on main roads throughout the DDA and in neighborhoods. We have particularly focused on neighborhoods that had the majority of their street trees removed 10+ years ago. Promise kept!

Improve City Parks & Services

Since 2019, Madison Heights has secured nearly $1,000,000 in grant funding for new play structures and park improvements throughout the city. Each new play structure is being installed with the goal to make every park in Madison Heights be fully ADA accessible. Improvements include:

  • Added a fitness court for adult users

at Huffman Park

  • Resurfaced park parking lots
  • Replaced deteriorating fencing at parks and baseball fields

New Play Structures at:

    • Rosie's Park
    • Civic Center Park
    • Edison Park
    • Wildwood Park
    • Exchange Park

New Play Structures coming soon at:

  • McGillivray Park (formerly Ambassador)
  • 12-Sherry Park

Work has begun to add pavilions, pickleball courts, updated basketball courts and more!

In addition, we began work on an ambitious project that will down-size our outdated city hall, making better use of the space and making it more energy efficient. The civic center project will also renovate and revitalize our public library and bring the Active Adult Center to the civic center so that everyone can more easily access city services and resources. All this with a SAVINGS of over two million dollars from what the deferred maintenance required in our previous facilities. These new facilities will be opening this spring and fall. Promise kept!

Build a more inclusive & connected community

In 2020, Madison Heights established the Human Relations and Equity Commission with the goal of helping everyone in our diverse city have access, representation and consideration when it comes to city services, programming and policies. With the advent of new programs and services, our city has more opportunity for connection and outreach beyond our 7 square miles.

New Public Art, Events & Programs Include:

  • Juneteenth Celebration at Civic Center Park
  • The Bloom Project & Native Plant Advocacy
  • Trail Tunes
  • Arts & Pride
  • Murals in parks around the city

Priorities for 2023-2027

Plant a tree

Greener

Let's work towards a greener and more environmentally sustainable future. Since 2019, I've focused on planting trees throughout the city. We are now a Tree City USA with over 600 new trees in our neighborhoods. By seeking outside grant funding, creative solutions for big picture problems and informed decision-making, we can keep this momentum going for our long-term sustainability.

Kids Playing with Soap Bubbles

Growing

I will continue to prioritize upgrades our parks, library and city services & develop creative solutions for economic growth through small business support, efficient government policy and better access to city, state and federal resources for all. Local governments can't decide who comes to the city to set up a business, but we can make it a better place to do business, encourage community involvement and ensure that when growth opportunities arise, we are ready to take on the challenge.

Many Kids Stack Hands as a Network Concept

Inclusive

By fostering an environment where everyone feels welcomed and respected & by embracing our differences, we can create a city that thrives on the strength of its diverse population. I will continue to ensure that there is space for everyone to be heard and respected. Be it in public meetings, through civic engagement in our various communities or policy changes and updates that need to be made so that everyone has access to their city's programs, services and elected officials.
